It asks you to dig deep and discover what you are really made of – physically, mentally, and emotionally. From the literal high of summiting the tallest peak in the Southern Hemisphere, to the figurative high that comes from knowing that your efforts, your actions, and your influence has helped hundreds of children and their community to build the sustainable and positive future they deserve.

ONE HEART

Founded in 2007, One Heart exists to empower vulnerable children to fulfil their full potential so that the poverty cycle is broken. From humble beginnings in Turbo, Kenya, One Heart has expanded to now include a second Kenyan site, Soy, as well as two sites in Uganda – Bugiri and Naluya – and a new site in Tanzania.

Early on, One Heart’s founder Dean Landy recognised that solving the challenges of child poverty and the poverty cycle wouldn’t be as simple as just providing education. In fact, it requires a holistic approach that encapsulates education, healthcare, provision of food, shelter, and water, and most importantly a safe place for children to feel like they belong. So he set about creating a model of Rescue, Restore, Empower and Reintegrate that met all these needs.

With a unique focus on community and family, One Heart has successfully raised funds for hundreds of children over the last 15 years and are now seeing the fruit of their labour as children who came from dire, life-threatening situations are now graduating from vocational training and university, taking on leadership roles in the community, and even starting families of their own.

The generational impact they’ve always dreamed of is now becoming a reality.

CHALLENGE 1: COMMIT

Often the hardest part of reaching any goal is that first step. No matter how you learned about the Trek For Change, now that you are here, we challenge you to put your hand up, and say yes to what will be a life-changing experience.

CHALLENGE 2: PREPARE

The challenges are real. Both the fundraising, the training, and your eventual summit may likely be some of the hardest achievements you have ever worked for. We will support you as you ‘rise to the challenge’.

CHALLENGE 3: CHANGE

This experience is about the world, your place in it and your impact on it, from a whole new perspective. You’ll define and approach your purpose under the coaching of some seriously inspiring leaders. This trip will change you forever.

Registration Fees and Fundraising Targets

A major part of the leadership and personal development experience will happen in the lead-up to the trip via fundraising. All funds raised through the Trek For Change Experience will directly support One Heart in their mission to empower children in Africa to break free from poverty and fulfil their potential.

We’ve set a fundraising goal of $10,000AUD per person. This may seem easy to you, or may feel completely overwhelming. Either way, we’ve got a whole suite of resources to support you in your journey.

There is a one-off participation fee of $7,500AUD per participant with an optional 2-day safari add-on for $2,400AUD. Once you’re on the ground in Tanzania, this fee will cover everything including all meals, accommodation, transfers/internal flights and tours.

Each participant is responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from Tanzania as well as visas and vaccinations.
